If youโ€™re getting fingerprinted as part of your application process for a Florida real estate license, itโ€™s important to know how long those fingerprints remain on file and what happens if your application is delayed.

๐Ÿ“Œ If You Have Not Yet Submitted an Application:

  • Fingerprints are retained by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) for 180 days (6 months).

  • This means you must submit your application within 6 months of being fingerprinted.

  • If your application is not received by the Florida DBPR within that time, you will need to get fingerprinted again and pay any associated fees.

๐Ÿ“Œ If You Have Submitted an Application:

  • Once your application is received and linked to your fingerprint record, the Florida DBPR considers your fingerprint results valid for 2 years from the date the application is approved.

  • During that 2-year period, you do not need to be fingerprinted again for license activation, retakes, or related follow-ups.

โœ… Best Practice:

To avoid extra costs or delays:

  • Get fingerprinted shortly before or right after submitting your application at myfloridalicense.com.

  • Double-check that your Social Security Number and ORI Code are entered correctly when getting fingerprinted to ensure your results are properly routed to the DBPR.
